Position Description

Duties & Responsibilities

Provides clear and precise directions to persons who contact the office either by telephone or in person.

The Intake Clerk is the initial contact person for the Office of Social Services.

Schedules appointments for central and satellite offices.

Receives visitors and/or guests to the Jensen Office.

Registers clients as they arrive for services.

Assembles any written information given by the clients for use by the Eligibility Specialists.

Provides information and referrals to clients.

Enters information regarding client information into the computer.

Handles all telephone calls.

Files information.

Contacts utility companies as to the status of the bills presented by clients seeking assistance.

Light typing.

Compiling statistics utilizing basic computer skills.

Other job duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.

One (1) year of clerical experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Must possess excellent customer service skills.

Must possess basic computer skills and have some familiarity with filing systems.

Pleasant telephone voice and good communication skills; both verbal and written.

Courteous, neat in appearance, friendly, possess good organizational and telephone skills, and job knowledgeable.

Ability to type 35 words per minute.

Ability to handle multiple job duties.

Additional Requirements

Must have a valid driver’s license and liability insurance.

General Information

Work Environment

The work is performed in an office setting.

No special safety precautions are required.

The work does require mobility within an office/ building setting.

Work Hours

The work is conducted during a 40-hour work week

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Additional Information

Receives general supervision from a Program Manager.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
