Zingerman’s Mail Order is hiring seasonal staff for our front desk concierge position! If you love to meet new people, have high energy, and an ability to multitask like crazy, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

Zingerman’s Mail Order is the online and catalog shop for Zingerman’s. We ship great food and gifts all across America, everything from bread and cheese to cured ham and tinned fish.

The holidays at

are crazy, but fun. We grow from a crew of 50 to a swarm of nearly 500. People come to work here from all walks of life. Moms, dads, students, retirees, landscapers, dancers. Some people are in between jobs. Some people, this is their first job. Some folks come because they want to work with us for the long term. Some, it’s just a little job for extra Christmas present money. Any reason is fine with us. Nearly everyone who works here now started as a part of a holiday crew at one time or another. We’d love for you to join us.

What kinds of things do you do in this job?

Greet and assist every customer, employee and visitor entering our building

Health screening all employees and visitors coming into the ZMO 600 building

Shovel and salt the entrance and sidewalks when it snows

Provide oversight of the parking lot, sides of buildings during overnight shifts by walking through the parking lot and around buildings throughout shifts.

You are able to help with any and all tasks that may come up.

Walk employees to their vehicles as needed

Assist with serving employee meals

Hand out paychecks

Fill the vending machine

Assist with Google Voice and recording employee attendance for Warehouse

Assists with trial shifts, new employee intakes and orientation classes

This is a temporary position through January 15th, 2021.

Safety at Zingerman’s Mail Order

The health and safety of our staff is our greatest priority. We are adamantly following the guidelines and directives from the CDC, Washtenaw County, the State of Michigan and other experts. We are focusing on screening, sanitizing and distancing in our building:

We are screening everyone who comes to work each day for symptoms.

We are sanitizing all touched surfaces every two hours.

We have set up safe working distances for every employee and we wear masks in the building.

What does it take to get hired as a holiday concierge?

There are lots of things we are hoping to find in anyone who applies. (We’ve listed them below.) But there are three musts:

You must meet schedule availability requirements to be considered for this position.


4pm-10pm (12am in December)

Overnight shifts starting in December 12am-8am (

**Priority will be given to applicants with evening and weekend availability)

You must have customer service experience and absolutely love to service our customers and our staff.

You must be comfortable providing oversight of the parking lot, sides of buildings during overnight shifts by walking through the parking lot and around buildings throughout shift.

When does this job begin and end?

Work starts in October and ends on or around January 15th, 2021

Compensation is $12.50/hour

The Performance Expectations are:
Be a visible, recognizable, and approachable presence to the staff throughout the building and deliver amazing service.

Manage the health screening of employees and visitors entering our building and the subsequent records.

Provide oversight of parking lot, sides of building during overnight shift by walking through parking lot and around buildings throughout shift.

Responsible for performing the daily tasks at the concierge station

Use a walkie to communicate with departments across the two buildings

Provide a friendly face and listening ear to folks who have questions.

Work closely and communicate with Warehouse leaders and Service Center leaders

Keep the foyer presentable for our customers and employees

Shovel snow and salt on the sidewalks in the front of the building when it snows

Be a productive member of our fun, fast-paced energetic team.

Work with our crew to deliver the Zingerman’s Experience to each of our customers!

Help building visitors as needed (finding pick up orders, dropping off orders, locating employees, etc).

Restock toiletries, when needed

Fill the vending machine as needed throughout the shift

Report possible security and safety issues to building leadership.

Responsible for securing the lockbox with paychecks

Collect and communicate lost and found items.

Complete orientation and training classes

The Success Patterns for this position are:
Experience in customer service

Ability to read, speak and write fluently in English

Comfortable bending, lifting, and sitting for an 8 hour shift in a warehouse environment.

Excellent self management and communication skills

Have reliable transportation to and from work

Must be punctual and have excellent attendance

Able to work from a task list or checklist

What and where is this job?

This is a job in our warehouse located at

610 Phoenix Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48108

. Our warehouse is open seven days a week and, at the holiday, 24 hours a day. It is where we pick and pack orders for our customers. It’s where we wrap bread, make gift boxes, cut cheese and cook spiced pecans in our kitchen. (We also have

jobs in our phone service center



at the same address.) We are on the

AATA bus route

What’s the hiring process like?

We don’t have a typical interview for our holiday crew. Instead we have trial shifts that will give you a sense of the position and will allow us to see if you have the energy & skills for this position. If your application meets the requirements, you will be invited to sign up for a trial shift appointment. Hiring decisions will be made by the end of your trial shift.
